Method
- Place the peanut butter, soy sauce, and rice vinegar in a small bowl, then whisk together until well combined and smooth. The mixture should be glossy and slightly thick.
- Add the honey or maple syrup to the mixture for a touch of sweetness, then whisk again until fully incorporated.
- Gradually pour in the hot water or broth while whisking steadily, creating a silky and pourable sauce with a shiny appearance.
- Transfer the mixture to a small saucepan and warm over low heat. Stir constantly until the sauce is heated through, about 3-5 minutes, and begins to slightly thicken.
- Check the consistency—if it’s too thick, add a splash more hot water or broth and whisk until smooth. If it’s too thin, simmer for another minute until slightly thicker.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and let it sit for 2 minutes to settle and develop flavor. Give it a final stir, then taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a dash of chili oil or crushed peanuts before serving. This sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently and stir before use.
